Adelaide Youth Orchestras - General Appeal

The Adelaide Youth Orchestras is the premier platform for gifted young musicians in South Australia. Over 250 young people aged 8 - 24 years participate in four orchestras, training, rehearsing and performing in city and regional venues. Supporters are invited to contribute to our organisation's future through our innovative programs.

Scholarships Program - Each year around thirty scholarships are provided to enthusiastic young musicians according to economic need. They might have financial constraints, or long distances to travel, making it difficult to attend rehearsals and performances. Imagine if these young people were not able to participate in our orchestras.

Skills and Development Program - thanks to your support, every student is able to experience stimulating coaching with South Australia’s finest musicians, from organisations including the Australian String Quartet, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Elder Conservatorium of Music and the Band of the South Australia Police, other professional musicians and visiting artists. This enhances the expert coaching and leadership from our artistic team.

Commissioning New Works - One of the most sought-after opportunities in the world of music is to be commissioned to write an original work for orchestra. We have the inherent flexibility to work with developing and established Australian composers to rehearse and perform new works. Commissioning the creation of musical repertoire is one of the most satisfying ways of contributing to our work.

Schools Concert Tours Program - Bringing the youth orchestra and its ensembles into schools is an inspirational means of creating a love of music in children. How exciting for students to see and hear their peers perform - discovering the power of an orchestra and ensemble - often for the very first time.

Metropolitan Touring - Our youth orchestras are sought after to perform in local communities across Adelaide. And, our young musicians love these kinds of experiences and to be stretched in their musical practice. Our aim is to always ensure these performances are highly accessible. For many people, seeing and hearing the Adelaide Youth Orchestras perform live is their first experience of the power of orchestral music.

Teamwork, creativity and leadership are the driving forces within our organisation. We give young musicians the life affirming experience of playing with one of our four orchestras. Whether they continue in music, science, medicine, business or public service, they are our future leaders. Their creativity is an exceptional asset to South Australia and its standing as a place of innovation and prosperity.
