Emergency Relief Fund

ARDFA partners with local Anglican parishes, dioceses or provinces to ensure that on-the-ground assistance is provided on an integral mission basis to those who are experiencing the greatest need. In other words, the emergency relief provided by our partners does not only comprise humanitarian aid, but also embraces the provision of emotional and spiritual care, comfort and compassion to people affected by loss and trauma as a result of an emergency or disaster.

Bushfire Emergency Appeal:  This appeal is to provide relief and pastoral care for those affected by bushfires in many parts of Australia.  The 2019–20 Australian bushfire season is already the most destructive bushfire season since the 2008–09 Australian bushfires and the most widespread in recorded history, having already burned over 5,900,000 hectares of land (estimated), destroyed over 2,500 buildings (including over 1300 homes). The fires have also caused the death of at least 18 people.

From last November, the fires have heavily impacted various regions of North and Mid North Coast of New South Wales, the Hunter Region, the Hawkesbury, the Blue Mountains, and the Illawarra Region.

Australia's East/South-East Coast has experienced more than 100 fires which burned across NSW and Victoria, with fires extending across to the Adelaide Hills and further to Kaloorlie and Yanchep in Western Australia. As of New Year's Day there are even eight active fires reported active in Tasmania.

ARDFA has been quick to send funds to affected areas.  We act in consultation with parishes, dioceses and on-the-ground Anglican relief agencies, including the Bush Church Aid Society, Anglicare and the Samaritans Foundation (Newcastle Diocese) and the Emergency Chaplains Ministry of the Victorian Council of Churches.  ARDF Australia will continue to help in providing relief and pastoral care to those affected by the bushfires.  Part of the funds raised will be also used to support the pastoral work of emergency chaplains and others engaged by parishes and church agencies. Recovery will take a long time. Your support is much appreciated.

Developing country emergencies  In recent years ARDF has worked with its (Anglican) partners in Nigeria, South Sudan, Iraq, the Middle East, Chile and Asia/Pacific countries such as Nepal (earthquake), Myanmar (floods), Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Vanuatu (volcanic eruption).

If you want your donation to go to a particular emergency other than ARDF's current appeal, please tell us by way of email to and we will allocate your gift to the relevant disaster.  You should designate a specific appeal in our GiveNow donor facility at the box “Notify someone of your donation”.

Integral Mission  Every relief appeal or development project which ARDFA supports is initiated by an Anglican Church partner.  Consequently, our activities embrace a spiritual component one way or another.  Without exception, this component is provided and funded by our in-country partner.  No tax-deductible donations received by ARDFA are used for such purposes.  Donors wishing to support this component of any relief appeal or development project should donate to our Gospel Promotion and Ministry Fund mentioning what activity you wish to support in this way.

If donations exceed budget:  Donations received for the ARDFA Emergency Relief Fund are applied to the emergency response nominated by the donor.  If funds raised exceed the amount needed for a specific appeal, such funds will be retained and used for the next emergency as decided by the ARDFA Executive Team.
