Beechworth to Bridge

The Elephant Walk

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping B2B make the Elephant Walk happen again in 2022 by contributing to our walk fund.

In 2018, B2Bs inaugural president, Lisa Cartledge, and a group of dedicated supporters walked from Beechworth to the north side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge to encourage open conversations about suicide, and to raise funds for research and prevention.

We moved the walk from Beechworth to Bright in 2019 with walkers trekking from Beechworth to Everton and Myrtleford, finishing in beautiful Bright – all along the rail trail.  We were on hold in 2020 due to COVID restrictions in 2020  but returned magnificently in March 2021 to, again complete the walk from Beechworth to Bright.

Supported by a volunteer committee who are also survivors of suicide, Lisa's personal connection to suicide over her lifetime is powerful and heartbreaking, demonstrating the looming stigma that still surrounds survivors.

If you've been touched by suicide, you'll appreciate the damaging effect it can have on survivors when friends and relatives find your loved one is somehow unmentionable, taboo, or shameful.

There is no shame in suicide or surviving suicide. Like any other fatal condition, mental health is not a bad decision, it's an illness.

Stand up, open up, and start talking about suicide.
