Beat Cancer Appeal

Every day in South Australia 25 people will be diagnosed with cancer. Cancer is a disease that will affect one in two people by the age of 85.

With your help Cancer Council SA can make a difference in the fight to beat cancer.

What do we do?

Since 1928 Cancer Council SA has worked resolutely to beat cancer and create hope for the people it affects. Cancer Council SA is uniquely placed as a resource for action, a voice for change and a stalwart champion to continue leading the fight against cancer.

What can you do?

Your gift can help us to beat cancer
  • $15 can help us promote SunSmart Schools program to children
  • $20 can help us promote bowel screening kits that help save lives
  • $30 can help us provide registered nurses with oncology qualifications to give information and support to a person facing cancer via Cancer Council Helpline 13 11 20.
  • $100 can help fund clinical trials which test new and better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer- ensuring cancer patients have access to new treatments and best cancer care

How will the funds be used?

Everyday Cancer Council SA is working towards bringing the defeat of cancer closer. We invest in vital research to find new pathways to prevent and treat cancer. We provide prevention and early detection campaigns in addition to support services for people with cancer and their family, carers or friends.

Unfortunately, we need double the funds to support all the worthy cancer research projects presented to us. Our fear is that the one project that doesn't go ahead may hold the key to the breakthrough we are so desperately looking for.

Imagine what could be achieved, especially when you consider the progress so far in South Australia;
  • Most recently recorded cancer deaths are down 9 percent on the numbers expected from death rates two decades ago
  • Cervical cancer prevalence has fallen 40 per cent over the last 30 years
  • Breast cancer deaths have been decreasing since 1990 with screening improving early diagnosis
  • Rates of smoking, known to cause cancer, have declined from 33 percent of adults in the early 1980's to 21 per cent
These achievements are made possible thanks to donations from the community.

With your help, together we can beat cancer.
