The Patricia Giles Centre

Camps for Families after Domestic Violence

The Pat Giles Centre is funded to provide a metropolitan wide children's counselling service to all children living in the fourteen women's refuges in Perth.

We are seeking funds to hold two family camps per year, in the April and October school holidays . Each camp is 4 days and three nights for 6-8 families, for children 4-18years who been attending counselling with the service, all siblings and the non abusing parent in the family attend the camp.

The focus of the camps is to build upon the skills which have been explored within the counselling process, looking at the family working together as a unit, using communication skills and the placement of appropriate boundaries to assist the family unit to work together to address the impact of domestic violence. The counsellors also model appropriate responses to family disputes and disagreements for the parents.

All camps have a camp leader present throughout the camp and are fully catered, for many families this is their first experience of a holiday .All the CCS counsellors attend through-out the day with a counsellor staying each night . The camp activities each day are a mix of therapeutic and fun events.
