Due to changes to Federal Government funding in 2014, there is very limited legal funding available for approximately 2,000 asylum seekers currently living in Western Australia who arrived by boat between August 2012 and December 2013. These asylum seekers will be subjected to the new fast track assessment process to determine their eligibility for the grant of a Temporary Protection Visa (TPV).
The Humanitarian Group is working to establish a new TPV Project to provide specialised legal advice, assistance and representation to these highly vulnerable asylum seekers. Without this assistance, these asylum seekers will be left without the means or the knowledge to put together their claim for asylum and navigate the complex legal process.
The Humanitarian Group (formerly CASE for Refugees) is a not-for-profit organisation focussed on empowering vulnerable people by providing professional and accessible migration assistance, legal advice and education. We strive to do this in a way that embraces diversity and strengthens communities.
We need to raise $200,000 this year to establish the TPV Project and to keep it running on a full-time basis.
To raise these desperately needed funds, the Fair Go for Asylum Seekers Appeal has been created in collaboration with a number of concerned organisations in Western Australia, including:
If you believe in people having a fair go in having their cases heard, then please give your support to this Appeal.
