Invasive coal and gas mining projects are threatening farmland and communities across Victoria.
Fracking for coal seam gas, shale gas and tight gas is now a real and distinct threat to our water, our health and our land.
A whopping 1.3 million hectares plus of Victorian land has been signed off in licences for new coal and invasive gas projects. This includes most of Gippsland - a region that produces 23% of Australia's milk and some of our best beef and freshest vegetables - and huge swathes of Western Victoria, including some of the state's most cherished destinations along the Great Ocean Road and Otway National Park.
Communities across Victoria, however, are standing up - and are Locking The Gate in the thousands! Through a comprehensive and truly democratic survey process, towns are declaring themselves 'Coal and Gasfield Free' and vowing to do whatever they can to stop this invasive mining from going ahead. Over 60 Victorian towns have now declared and the numbers are continuously building.
However we have only reached the tip of the iceberg - we desperately need your support to reach communities under threat, those we have not yet been able to work with.
If we can Lock the Gate across the state, we can stop this industry from getting the foothold it so desperately needs. If we stand united across the regions, we can stop this industry in its tracks.
