cohealth Murray to Moyne Fundraising Challenge

cohealth

The cohealth Comotion bicycle team will take part in the annual Murray to     Moyne fundraising event, riding 520km in 24 hours from Echuca to Port     Fairy. All funds raised from this event will go towards cohealth's Arts Generator Benchmark Program;

Arts Generator is thrilled to be selected again as the recipient of the Murray to Moyne fund-raising challenge! The funds raised this year will go towards our Benchmark program which supports young people from African communities to make positive change for themselves and their communities through arts based practice. This program supports young people to create art and community events that are focused on using collective imagination to envision a different kind of future for communities suffering systemic disadvantage.

In 2017 the Benchmark program will expand its writing and recording project in response to ever growing numbers. This project supports young Australians to make sense of their own personal narrative through poetry and song writing. 2017 will see the production of a collection of public recordings and videos that explore personal stories and collective strength as a community. This body of work is in response to a finding from the Scanlon Foundation's Australians Today research study, that South Sudanese Australians experience the highest levels of race based discrimination in this country. This is compounded by an avalanche of negative representation in the media. The high levels of stigma that this is causing is having a devastating effect on this community.

Arts generator's Benchmark program is now run by two young men from African communities, providing positive role modelling and support through lived experience. These two young men are mentored by Liss Gabb (Arts Generator co-ordinator) and are employed across a range of Arts Gen programs. Benchmark offers hope through self expression, positive visibility and the formation of positive relationships. Please help us continue this important work.
