SUMMARY

In memory of my dogs (see below), I will be doing the unthinkable and running a half-marathon on September 18th (Blackmores Sydney Running Festival). Anyone who knows me well will know that I hate running, so this will be a real challenge but I am motivated to do it well!

I am raising funds for two charities. Please pick your favourite or split your donation across both:

• Sydney Animal Second-Chance, who take on unwanted animals and those requiring special care (e.g. traumatised dogs from puppy farms), and help them turn their lives around. We sometimes foster their dogs whilst they go from the sh*thouse to the penthouse, as the saying goes.
• Seniors and Silky Rescue, a group dedicated to rescuing and rehoming older dogs (any breed) or Silkies of any age. They also have a Forever Care programme, which is for dogs who cannot be rehomed but will be looked after by SSR for the rest of their lives. Dogs in Forever Care can be sponsored on an ongoing basis if this is something you are also interested in doing.

BACKGROUND

As some of you may know, we adopted 15-year old litter mates Coco and Sophia in 2018 after their original owner sadly had to go into care and surrender them. They spent four wonderful years with us and completely took over our lives in the best way possible. 

Coco fell ill out of nowhere and left us on May 20th of this year, and the otherwise healthy Sophia's condition suddenly started to deteriorate just a week later before she chose to join her sister in the early hours of June 3rd. Coco was starting to slow down towards the end but always had energy for a little tail-wag when she saw us, and Sophia's eyesight had eventually completely deserted her but she never let that stop her from storming purposefully around our house looking for new places to urinate. Just weeks after their 19th birthday though, both of our beloved old gals decided their innings should come to an end. We are very sad but grateful for how they enhanced our lives.
