Stef's 6 Week Weight Loss Challenge for PKU

Supporting Metabolic Dietary Disorders Association MDDA

Metabolic Dietary Disorders Association MDDA

PKU Awareness

My name is Stephanie Hutchen I was born with a Rare Metabolic Disorder called Phenylketonuria (PKU). PKU is a genetic disorder (a disease a person is born with) where a person's body cannot break down an amino acid called phenylalanine.

I am 30 years old and my starting weight is 82 kilos I can only eat 4 grams of protein per day and I take 4 formulas every day, this makes it very hard to lose weight, as I cannot have high protein foods which helps you burn fat, recover from workouts and build muscle. This is why I have decided to do this challenge to lose as much as I can in 6 weeks to hopefully get to my goal weight of 75 kilos.

I am doing a Six Week Weight Loss Challenge that includes intensive training five days a week to raise money for Metabolic Dietary Disorders Association (MDDA). The MDDA supports and represents families and individuals affected by a Rare Metabolic Disorders and genetic Inborn Error of Metabolism whereby treatment involves a medically controlled diet.

I am compleating this challenge in conjunction with Rare Disease Day on the 28th of February to raise awareness for people like myself that are born with PKU or other rare disorders every day. I would like to raise money for The MDDA so they can continue to support our community.

The money I raise during my challenge will go towards much needed funding for new treatments, PKU/IEM Dietary Management and Wellbeing APP, National program recognising “Low Protein” as a special dietary option in participating venues around Australia, MDDA’s National PKU & IEM Research and Clinical Care Fund Current clinical research projects, Newly Diagnosed IEM ‘new parent’ & ‘infant’ kits, Family travel/attendance assistance for MDDA family retreats & remote clinics, Outreach support, mentoring and educational programs for carers of high needs PKU patients and at risk transitional groups and Low Protein pop up kitchen (multi-city bi-annual roadshow) providing hampers and meals for foodbank and pre-order.

So please support their work by donating to my CrowdRaiser, as I know they will appreciate every cent received. And I will be very grateful for your contribution too!
