SYO are incredibly excited to announce that Creative Partnerships Australia will match $50,000 of donations towards The Big Busk, an opportunity made possible through Creative Partnerships Australia’s Plus1 program. With the help of Creative Partnerships Plus1, your contribution will go twice as far, with funds raised going towards the purchase of new musical instruments.

The Big Busk, when youth orchestral music takes over the city!

Hundreds of young SYO musicians and alumni will take over the city of Sydney for one day this October, raising funds to support the purchase of instruments and music for the Sydney Youth Orchestras, The Big Busk is an event showcasing the very best orchestral musicians in free concerts all over Sydney CBD.

On Tuesday the 9th of October, over 550 musicians and alumni from Sydney Youth Orchestras will bring Sydney to life with a wide scale public celebration of youth music, The Big Busk. The musical spectacle aims to raise both awareness and funds for Sydney Youth Orchestras, so that they can continue their great work supporting, nurturing and training our musicians of the future.

The highly talented musicians of SYO, who are aged between 6 and 24, will be given exclusive access to perform for lucky passers-by at some of Sydney’s most iconic locations. Performances will take place at Martin Place, Pitt Street Mall, Circular Quay, Central Station and Centenary Square in the heart of Parramatta’s CBD. Over the course of the day, the orchestras will play a combined total of more than 12 hours of music and lucky spectators will be entertained by everything from Mozart to Lady Gaga.

But these pop-up performances won’t just be background music - this is genuine busking, and the most important part will be earning tips to support the great cause. The Big Busk performers will be giving it their all, so they capture the attention of thousands of people and leave a lasting impression on their eyes and ears. This will be foot stomping, hand clapping, coin giving fun.
Members of the SYO will be onsite to accept donations, or donors can give online. All money raised goes towards the Enterprise Fund, which supports SYO’s critical business infrastructure, expands our music library, and helps to acquire orchestral instruments.
