Raising funds to help re-green Mallacoota and District

We are three friends and former work colleagues and we're cycling from Melbourne to Mallacoota in Far East Gippsland. It’s a trip of more than 900km in under three weeks, and the longest bicycle ride any of us has ever undertaken.

Starting on Monday 8 November from Melbourne on country traditionally owned by the Bunurong people of the Mayone Bulluk clan, our Ride for Regrowth will wind along ‘the trails less travelled’, taking in Phillip Island and Cape Paterson via sections of the Bass Coast and Great Southern Rail Trails, then onto Gunaikurnai country and the coastal towns of Port Albert, Woodside Beach and Seaspray; and inland to Glengarry and Stratford along the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail. Turning back to the coast, we’ll load the bikes onto a water taxi from Loch Sport to Paynesville; then ride inland again to Orbost on the East Gippsland Rail Trail; with our final leg taking in Bidewell, Yuin, Gunnaikurnai and Monero (Ngarigo) nations country, following back tracks and trails through state forest and Croajingolong National Park from Marlo to Mallacoota.

As well as experiencing the beauty of Gippsland’s wilderness coast, we’re partnering with the Friends of Mallacoota to raise money to help regrow and plant local vegetation lost during the devastating 2019 New Years’ Eve bushfire.

We invite our friends, family, and those who, like us, have experienced the wild beauty of Far East Gippsland to donate to Ride for Regrowth and help restore the region’s unique habitats after the Black Summer bushfire.

Donations to Ride for Regrowth will enable the Friends of Mallacoota to equip, manage and maintain their new community plant nursery, including buying vital equipment such as water tanks, sprinkler systems, and nursery materials.

Money raised will also enable the Friends group to establish a landscaped native garden in Mallacoota featuring endemic, rare and endangered plant species found only in the Mallacoota district. The Endemic Garden will be a space for reflection, education and conservation ensuring that seeds and cuttings are always available and species are protected from future large-scale landscape fires.

Please support the Friends' wonderful work by donating to our ride and sharing this page with family and friends

We would also love you to be part of our adventure via Facebook or Instagram
