Ryan Tan's Big Chop

Supporting Lions Cancer Institute Inc.

Lions Cancer Institute Inc.

Lions Cancer Institute (WA)

My name is Ryan Tan and it has taken me approximately 3 years for my hair to be 50cm long so that I can donate towards making a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to cancer or some other medical condition. We usually hear of women and children doing this, but I would like to encourage more men to donate their hair for this cause. I will be making the big chop in November to coincide with the Movember movement in raising awareness of men’s health issues, especially prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

As the number of cancer cases rise every year, it is vital that we strive to understand the root of the disease in order to treat it effectively or avoid it completely. We all know someone who is either battling this disease or is a survivor. Therefore, I believe in the research objectives of the Lions Cancer Institute Inc. and are keen to raise funds towards the Karen and Joshua Chinnery Memorial Scholarship (K&JC Fund) that is managed by the Institute. This Scholarship supports selected PhD students undertaking research into cancer disease in a WA University and is currently supporting three students.

The Institute also conducts skin cancer screenings with its mobile screening facility and has been scheduled to cover the southern areas of WA from now until the end of the year. The program is staffed by volunteers and screenings are free.

Your support towards my big chop is greatly appreciated. I would also be grateful if you could share my CrowdRaiser page to inspire as many people as possible.

Thank you!
