Walk for Tigray

Supporting WellWishers Trust

WellWishers Trust

I am walking my solo 68km walk from Cape Jervis to Victor Harbor on the first section of South Australia’s “Heysen Trail” to support the vital work of village water supplies in Tigray, northern Ethiopia.
Originally I was doing it as a challenge for my 75th birthday this month, because indeed it will be, especially with this weeks forecast of thunderstorms and rain.(and I’m a fair weather camper!!)
But today after corresponding with my colleague Shane Dolan from well digging days in Tigray Ethiopia, which is currently experiencing a shocking and brutal war, I decided to use this walk as a fundraiser for rebuilding and repairing wells which have recently been destroyed.
Shane spoke to me about 3 weeks ago asking if I would like to join him to do something for the people of Tigray, to which I enthusiastically agreed, but neither of us knew where to start. Shane enthusiastically supported my idea to seek sponsorship for my walk.
As friends of mine, I’ve shared with many of you my utter despair about the war in Tigray. The overwhelming sense of helplessness is always there. So I’m asking if you would like to sponsor me for this walk, to raise money for well reconstruction. The funds would go through the charity “ WellWishers”, (an Australian organisation, and tax deductible), then directly to the amazing Tigrayan humanitarian organisation with whom Shane and I originally taught well construction. Hundreds of wells have been hand built since that program in early 1990s.
If you would like to support this effort, I’d love to hear from you. I will reply to supporters with how the walk went.  You can safely donate through this website.

I am thrilled to have Shane Dolan join me in this fundraising effort.

Looking forward to your valuable support.  Thanks.
