ABOUT US

Indigo Junction provides accommodation and crisis support for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, children and family services, family and women’s domestic violence support and youth and community programs.

Indigo Junction began in 1979 as a single shelter known as Swan Emergency Accommodation. It was created out of community efforts, funds, and kindness to meet a long-highlighted need for a safe, homely, and reliable refuge in the Midland area for families, young people and single adults in crisis. Demand for this service soon outgrew the single dwelling and, over the following decades, the organisation added to its properties and expanded, offering services to meet the needs of the whole community.

Always more than a place of shelter, this community-focused ethos has continued to grow over the years, with a move from response-only to more preventative support and services to build self-reliance and develop practical life skills to benefit individuals and the wider community.

Known as Indigo Junction since 2016, the organisation remains centred around the personal relationships and community trust that it was originally built on.

OUR IMPACT

In 2022/2023 Indigo Junction provided 8,400 instances of support.

• Safe, affordable housing and support was provided to:
  28 families, including 54 children and young people, 33 vulnerable young people, and 152 women and children escaping family and domestic violence.
• Over 1300 food parcels or food vouchers were distributed to 853 people in need.
• Around 90 young people linked into intensive support through the Keny Moort and LIFT programs.
• In addition to accommodation provided through the refuge, 1600 people received counselling and advocacy support through Koolkuna’s Coordinated Response and Advocacy Service.
• 256 people who were sleeping rough, homeless or at risk of homelessness were provided with support through our various outreach and intensive case management support programs.
