Why are we collecting funds?

Nhyinila village is found in Bahi district at Mtitaa ward has a population of 7,807 of which 3,626 are male and 4,181 are female. The village also has home keeping animals, like cattle (11,168), goats (5,011) sheep (4,000) and donkeys (3,000). This village comprises of five sub villages namely; Muungano, Mazengo, Kawawa, Kaunda and Mbugani.

Why we are needed

Water supply is one of the major components of improving hygiene and sanitation of the communities. Poor climatic condition and absence of the reliable water sources like permanent rivers and spring water have caused the perpetual chronic water shortage for both animal and domestic use in Nhyinila village. The village has one (1) water supply scheme. This scheme was constructed by government but currently is not working due to breakdown of water pump since January 2015 and it is beyond repair, People from Nhyinila village currently fetch water from sources with unsafe water only few can manage to get water from other villages.

What we do to help

The activity focus will be replacement of worn out pump and engine by installation of new electrical water pump with capacity of pumping 4000lts/per hour in the total head of 120m driven by electrical generator of 5.5kva, repair of existing pipelines ( mainline and distribution networks) rehabilitation of water domestic points.

The school condition in terms of sanitation and hygiene facilities is very poor. School water supply is not functioning and pit ratio is 1:129 for boys and 1:130 for girls, even though latrine available in this school is not in a good condition, because it was temporarily constructed after previous one collapsed, there is no hygiene facilities (hand washing and girls bathroom). Moreover school committee and village government aren't aware about national SWASH guideline. Also school teachers do not have latrines, they go to their houses.
