Ear Health Awareness Book

We are appealing for your support to publish a new children’s book about the importance of ear health and hygiene.

Indigenous children are seven times more likely to require surgery to repair damage to ear drums and surrounding tissue than the wider population. The good news is that the condition is highly preventable.
The most common ear disease which affects Indigenous children is Otitis Media: if left untreated, this disease can lead to deafness resulting in delayed speech and poor education outcomes. In severe cases, ear disease can lead to life-threatening extra-cranial infections such as meningitis.

The Aboriginal Literacy Foundation is working with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons to help fight this tragic disease. Books will be designed to engage with Indigenous children by depicting relatable characters and environments. We aim to distribute this book among schools and families in remote communities.

We hope you consider supporting this important project.
