Fernlea House Christmas Appeal

Sarah* was diagnosed with cancer when she was only 43 years old. Until then, she had enjoyed her family, socialising and a professional career. Following her diagnosis, Sarah’s marriage broke down and so her parents again needed to become her carers. Sarah gradually became more isolated as sickness and financial hardship made it increasingly difficult to leave the house.

Sarah’s illness has taken its toll on her family who are not only having to deal with her diagnosis but are also struggling with their own health issues.

When she first came to Fernlea House, Sarah was quiet, shy and had a poor prognosis. At the house, she has been pampered and looked after as an individual not defined by her illness. The social interaction has helped her to create some friendships and she no longer feels lonely. Her parents are also grateful for the support Fernlea has given them, especially in giving them a break.

Just imagine how your world would change if someone you love were diagnosed with a serious illness like Sarah. Who would you turn to for support? Sadly, many families in our community are facing just that dilemma, and that’s where Fernlea can help.

Fernlea House receives no funding to care for people under 65, or to support their carers. We rely heavily on fundraising and the generosity of our donors.

During this ‘season of goodwill’, your donation will help Fernlea to continue transforming the lives of people in your local area who have a life-limiting illness.

You can donate now on this page - donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.
