The Friends of Mallacoota is a community-based organisation founded in the 1980s dedicated to protecting the environment of East Gippsland. We advocate for the conservation of the natural environment and raise awareness of environmental issues within our community. We have 150 members and undertake many practical activities to protect the area in which we live and work.
Our projects include a community nursery, weed control and flora/fauna surveys, recycling and litter clean ups, bush and beach care activities, contributing to better forest management, town landscaping, shorebird observation and nesting protection, and educational publications.
We also work with the Sanctuary Mallacoota Youth Group, a safe haven for Mallacoota’s young people to be together, support each other and develop their skills as leaders as they recover from the fire events of the summer of 2020.
