Timor Leste is one of the newest nations while it is one of the poorest. If work can be found, you can look forward to earning just $5.00 a day. Schools and Medical Clinics are few and far between. Only the lucky children can look forward to an education.
WHY ARE WE COLLECTING FUNDS
We believe that education and health care are the fundamentals in a young country being able to provide a better future for their young.
HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE USED
- Education for many families is either too expensive, or too far away. Through your donations we are able to supply a privately run school at no cost to the local families. By attending the school children also receive a midday meal, this could be the only meal the child will get.
- Health care for the local communities. H.A.N.D.S. assists with a medical clinic and birthing clinic in Sidara. This allows children, mothers and the aged free health care for the village as well as the surrounding area.
- Disabled members of the community, and their families receive no support due to in-education, many disabled people within the community were hidden from view. It is commonly thought that having disabled people in your family is due to an ancestral wrong-doing. Through the building of a Centre for People With Disabilities, the community is being educated that disabilities are not something to hide, but that people are still worthy of the same level of care as everyone else.
- H.A.N.D.S. hire local workers during construction work this not only teaches people new skills but also pays a wage. Once work is completed teaches and nurses are required, we also help with ongoing wages. This puts money back into the community.
