Multicultural Centre for Mental Health & Wellbeing Inc

Harmony Place

Harmony Place is a community-based multicultural organisation that provides culturally responsive services to strengthen the mental health and wellbeing of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.

We support people to develop a deeper understanding and insight into their mental health condition and provide individual counselling support and family and carer counselling.

Our support groups help to reduce social isolation, a known risk factor for mental illness. Donations will be used to fund group activities for our Youth group, Men's group, Women's group, Conversational English groups and Art and Craft groups.

The experience of migration and seeking asylum is stressful for many reasons. The loss of culture, language, family, employment and status. The pain of bereavement, the traumatic effects of war, social isolation and an uncertain future. All these factors exacerbate feelings of hopelessness and are known risk factors for mental illness.

People showing early signs of mental illness can be reluctant to seek treatment due to the cultural stigma and shame associated with mental illness. Stigma often causes people to be alienated and isolated from their family and community.

Our vision is a resilient multicultural community who enjoy emotional and social wellbeing and accept mental illness as a normal part of life for which help is available.
