After 2 sold-out shows of William Basinski & Caterina Barbieri which took place in January, we are thrilled to officially launch our 2019 Program.

Help make our 2019 program our best yet. Your donation will go directly to artists to present a dynamic program across art forms. A gift of $100 or more will assist artists throughout the creative process, from research and development right through to production. All donations of $2 and over are tax-deductible.

In 2019, we will present The SUBSTATION’s first ever programming in the city-wide Dance Massive Festival; Yandell Walton’s major solo exhibition Shifting Surrounds, following a 2-year commission process; and the Melbourne-exclusive of the legendary Japanese noise project Merzbow with local artist Corin. Channels, The Australian Video Art Festival will once again return to our space and we will collaborate with Lucy Guerin Inc to present Pieces - the newest incarnation of the renowned decade-long program Pieces for Small Spaces.

There are many more projects we are excited to be presenting in 2019 so stay tuned as we release more details throughout the year.

Thank you for considering a donation to The SUBSTATION and I look forward to welcoming you to the space in 2019.

The SUBSTATION is a multi-art space presenting a curated program of contemporary, experimental, interdisciplinary work by local, national and international artists. Engaging with artists from across artistic disciplines, working in non-traditional modes, we commission and curate our program to create opportunities for audiences in the greater west of Melbourne to see the best of contemporary and experimental arts. We aim to engage local audiences in an inspired, critical dialogue about current society.

The SUBSTATION’s 100-year-old repurposed, industrial building houses a visual arts gallery, rehearsal studio and large-scale multi-use performance space. The venue accommodates many Resident Artists, including radical feminist theatre makers The RABBLE, producer Erin Milne, the Australian Art Orchestra, visual artists Phuong Ngo and Hayley Millar-Baker and choreographer Jo Lloyd.

Donations play an integral part in The SUBSTATION's ability to support artists to create and present work. Your donation goes directly towards helping The SUBSTATION continue its work, championing contemporary and experimental arts and artists in the west.

We deeply appreciate your contributions and support.
