Right now in the desert of Algeria, Saharawi families are enduring increasing water poverty.
Many families in the refugee camps are managing on less than the minimum amount of water recommended by the United Nations, relying on ageing storage tanks and irregular water truck deliveries to serve their daily drinking, cooking, washing, and sanitary needs.
While here in Australia we consume around 160 litres of water per person every day, in the refugee camps Saharawis get by on less than 14 litres per day per person, putting them at risk of sickness and health complications.
By donating generously to the 2022 AWSA Humanitarian Relief Appeal, you can help Saharawi refugees secure safe water.
AWSA will send 100% of the funds raised to Oxfam in Algeria, who are working hard to build two new reservoirs, a new pumping station and a piped water network to improve the distribution of water in the refugee camps. They are also preparing a water management system, and working with Saharawi families to promote the safe use and storage of water.
