In order to continue to sustain these groups, the burden of raising funds falls on the Association and, more particularly, its volunteers. There is ongoing pressure to raise more and more funds from a cash strapped local community already suffering from 'donation fatigue'.
The population of the northern part of the Beaudesert Shire is increasing at around 12% per annum, with the increase from 1996 to 2001 of those 60 + years being 44% and projected to rise markedly as "baby boomers" reach this age bracket. An ABS study shows that over 50 % of those people in the 65 + years age range have some form of disability to do with their activities of daily living. This means a major segment of JCCA's client group will increase substantially in number, in the context of a general increase in population in the northern part of the Shire and the attendant increase in marginalised segments of the population.
The community that Caddies Community Care Centre serves has indicated that it wants ongoing services in mental health and in youth suicide, child care services and domestic violence prevention. These expressed needs will be met by providing a 'hub' from which a variety of services can operate with professionals making judgments about eligibility and service levels "on the ground", or, in close proximity and from within the community where those needs are located. We anticipate that this needs based operational policy will eliminate artificial distinctions between clients and client groups and enhance community well being. This will be achieved by the development and enhancement of existing programs, and the creation of new programs in response to community needs and recommendations.
