Sunrise Children's Association

Kathmandu Kids Perth

Kathmandu Kids was founded after a group of travelers were touched by a group of poverty-stricken children they met trekking in 2009.

What we do

Through Sunrise Children's Association Inc. (SCAI) Australia, we work to improve the living standard of vulnerable children through Child Protection, Education and Livelihood initiatives. We aim to help prevent trafficking and unnecessary separation of children by providing families an alternative choice, and provide children with a nurturing family environment, free from discrimination, abuse, neglect, exploitation and poverty.

How we do it

We provide funding for SCAI to work in partnership with local communities, to empower children and families through Education and Livelihood support.

SCAI tackle the problem at its source, by directly supporting children with Education Scholarships while living in their own local communities. These generally include school uniforms, fees and education materials, and in some cases extra child and family support, such as medical care, clothing or basic household goods.

They empower families to meet their basic physiological, psychological and developmental needs, through providing livelihood and skill development training and support as well as psychosocial counselling support to both children and their families.

They strengthen communities by raising awareness, strengthening child protection mechanisms, facilitating savings groups and helping develop local schools.

How will the funds be used?

100% of Kathmandu Kids funds go straight to SCAI. These funds will then be used to support 200 impoverished children and their families in rural communities in Nuwakot District, north of the Kathmandu Valley.
