These are such challenging times for so many, and by donating to LightnUp Incorporated, you are helping to light the hearts of communities across Australia and beyond. 

The lanterns inspire, connect and delight people of all ages and cultures, and nurture the next generation of artists and performers. Your role as a supporter plays a vital part in the future of community arts in Regional Australia. 

In case you don’t know us, LightnUp is a not for profit community arts organisation based in Lismore, in the heart of the Northern Rivers, New South Wales, Australia.

We produce the iconic Lismore Lantern Parade and run year-round programs and workshops throughout regional, rural and metropolitan Australia, including lantern making, parades, commissions, fire-art, illuminated puppets, story development, masks and costume making.

Our teams of artists have travelled to over 120 communities across Australia – from small communities in North East Arnhem Land, Perth and Alice Springs to metropolitan Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Tasmania, to Palm Island and Cairns, and all stops in between. 

LightnUp has a strong commitment to social inclusion and access to the arts. As an unfunded not for profit community organisation we are proud to welcome people from all walks of life, cultural backgrounds, abilities and socio-economic groups - offering the opportunity for self-expression and creativity, and to work alongside experienced and high-profile artists.

In 2019 we celebrated our 25th anniversary and then Covid-19 hit!

Like many community arts organisations we have been severely impacted by this devasting pandemic – we have had to cancel gigs, workshops, events, festivals and of course our wonderful signature event the Lismore Lantern Parade planned for 20th June 2020 that had to be postponed.

Pivoting was not enough, we pirouetted!

We stayed true to our vision to ‘lightntheheart’ of communities across the globe. Have a look at our website to see what we did at our Virtual Lantern Parade.

Right now - with the ongoing uncertainty of this pandemic we need to keep the workshop open, so that this wonderful community resource is not lost forever.

Everything we do is about bringing communities together and increasing social connection. Your support will help sustain us until we can take the light of the lanterns to the community again.

We need to raise $40,000 to keep us going to March next year - if a lot of people give a little we will get there. 

This money will 

  • Help us meet our mortgage repayments on this beautiful old building and pay our regular bills
  • Help us do critical building maintenance that won’t wait
  • Support our part time workforce of 3 people
  • Keep our doors open so we can continue to support our 26 plus regular volunteers
  • Help us survive so we can be there for our community on the other side!
