Many inmates who are released need help and support to get re-connected into the community. The greatest challenge is for those with no family, no accommodation and no employment options. Some just need a lift to the bus stop but others may need more structured longer term help.
Prison Fellowship Australia coordinates and promotes this program as one link in the many services needed by men and women being released from full time custody to become productive and responsible members of their communities.
How will the funds be used?
Inmates in the last twelve months of their custody are eligible for the program and can be matched up with a willing, Christ focused, well supported and supervised mentor. In addition to Mentoring, Prison Fellowship links with a range of service providers in the community to provide holistic support to the participants.
Mentors are recruited from local churches and participate as volunteers. Volunteers receive training for their role as Christian mentors that includes understanding the role of the mentor and understanding the common needs for post release care, including the formal role of probation and parole orders.
Key areas of expenditure
