McAuley Education Fund

$

Many of the people we help at Mercy Services want to improve their skills and qualifications but lack the resources to make this happen. The McAuley Education Fund provides assistance with course fees and equipment where no other source is available. Funding is limited to 70% of total funding requested or $2,000 (whichever is less).

The fund is named after Catherine McAuley, the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy. Catherine McAuley was committed to providing the most vulnerable people in society with the means to rise above poverty and powerlessness.

In 1999, we established the McAuley Education Fund to assist "graduates" of our alcohol and other drug services gain skills and qualifications. Since 1999, almost $36,000 has been granted for equipment, books and fees. Since 2007 the fund has extended to all Mercy Services clients. This means that people with a disability and families in distress to also receive assistance for study and training.

The McAuley Education Fund provides assistance with course fees and equipment where no other source is available. It is a good example of the proverb "if you give a person a fish they will not be hungry today but if you teach them how to fish they will never be hungry".

Donations are the sole source of money for the McAuley Education Fund. Additional funding is essential to enable us to help more people taking back control of their life and gain self esteem and the means to escape poverty. Funding is limited to 70% of total funding requested or $2,000 (whichever is less).
