"Due to the impact of COVID-19 and in order to protect the health and safety of our guest writers, audience, volunteers and staff, we have decided to postpone our 2021 festival until next year. Without ticketing revenue for a second year, our small organisation faces a challenging period. Your support is more essential than ever before."

COVID has severely disrupted Australia's arts and cultural scene, and the Newcastle Writers Festival has made the difficult decision to cancel our main program two years in a row. We will celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2022 and we need your support to make it our most successful year yet. 

Why donate? 

The fallout from the pandemic has been profound and we have lost our main source of revenue. Like so many organisations, we have had to make some tough decisions. If you were hoping to attend the festival in 2021, please consider making a small donation to ensure we can once again gather as a community to celebrate books and ideas in 2022. 

Where your money goes.

Donations to the Newcastle Writers Festival will help us to:

  • continue to attract world-class writers to Newcastle for the 2022 program and beyondengage and promote Hunter-based
  • writers and nurture emerging writers of the future 
  • expand our program for primary school students in the Hunter
  • remain accessible and affordable to an engaged and diverse audience through our many wonderful free events.
