DEADLOCK

DEADLOCK

Screenworks is delighted to be partnering with Every Cloud Productions to create a new Attachment Program for DEADLOCK, a groundbreaking screen drama project, by offering professional development opportunities for young people in the Northern Rivers Screen Sector.

DEADLOCK crashes though the incredible highs, heartbreak, camaraderie, laughs and bittersweet sorrow of what it is to be a teenager. When a mysterious car crash exposes the dark underbelly of an idyllic paradise, it dramatically changes the lives of the teens it touches. An innovative web series, DEADLOCK is set in and around the Northern Rivers  and will begin filming in the region in July 2017.

DEADLOCK is an original concept by acclaimed Norther Rivers filmmaker Deb Cox for Every Cloud Productions, and developed with writer Billie Pleffer, the series is being produced by Belinda Mravicic, Fiona Eagger and Deb Cox for Every Cloud Productions (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Newton’s Law, The Gods of Wheat Street). DEADLOCK will be directed by Billie Pleffer, mentored by Tony Tilse (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Underbelly) and the series will use local cast and crew wherever possible.

Every Cloud has previously produced two series of East of Everything and one series of Indigenous drama The Gods of Wheat Street in the Northern Rivers, demonstrating their commitment to the growth of a sustainable screen industry in the region.

Development of the series involved Screenworks partnering with Every Cloud in Byron Bay in December 2015 to host the Deadlock Script Lab Workshop with emerging writers from across Australia. The workshop was held in collaboration with Bryan Elsley (co-creator and co-writer of the edgy UK youth drama series Skins, and, more recently, Dates and Kiss Me First) and included nine local youth sharing their experiences with the series writers and producers, which was integral to the authenticity of the series.

An Every Cloud Production, DEADLOCK is presented by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Screen Australia, in association with Film Victoria and Screen NSW. Developed with the assistance of the Screen Australia, Film Victoria and Northern Rivers Screenworks. All3Media International will handle international sales.

Through Screenworks' commitment to providing opportunities for Northern Rivers local crew and young people to gain experience working on a professional production with professional crew, we have devised a Deadlock Attachment Program with all beneficiaries coming from the Northern Rivers.

These opportunities include the following:

1. DIRECTORS ATTACHMENT PROJECT

An opportunity for an emerging director to work on the DEADLOCK production for 5 weeks from pre to post production. Benefits: Career development opportunity for a young Northern Rivers based director to work on episodic drama from pre-production to post and obtain a film credit.

2. PRODUCTION ATTACHMENT PROJECT

Opportunities for emerging practitioners within 8 different departments on the DEADLOCK production. Departments include Production Office, Art Department, Camera Department, Sound Department, Lighting Department, Grips Department, Costume Department and Makeup Department. Benefits: Career development opportunities for young Northern Rivers emerging screen practitioners and students (SAE/TAFE/SCU) to experience professional drama production and obtain a film credit.

3. SCREEN ACTING FOR REGIONAL YOUTH

Casting and employment of young people from region in small roles and as extras on the DEADKLOCK production. Benefits: Professional acting and on set experience for regional high school students and young people on drama production.
