Queensland Positive People

Queensland Positive People Appeal

Queensland Positive People (QPP), founded in 1989, is the peak peer-based advocacy organisation in Queensland which is committed to actively promoting self determination and empowerment for all people living with HIV (PLHIV).

Our purpose is to be proactive, influential and recognised as being at the forefront of HIV advocacy, education and communication, so as to enhance the empowerment, health, well-being and self determination for all people living with HIV. To create an environment where engagement within the broader community is inclusive, actively sought and is free from discrimination and to demonstrate leadership whilst fostering vibrant, meaningful relationships with all within the HIV community.

Every donation to QPP goes towards ensuring people can live well with HIV in Queensland, including providing social connection together with support in times of hardship.  A key initative of QPP, funded from donations by the public and other generous supporters, is our HOPE Fund. The Hats Off Positive Endeavour (HOPE) Fund was established in 2006 to provide support to PLHIV in Queensland who are in need. The Fund provides small grants for goods and services to PLHIV, who are experiencing financial hardship, have a demonstrated material need and/or are looking to improve their lives.

QPP also coordinates the Queensland World AIDS Day awareness campaign, and supports World AIDS Day events and remembrances with our partner organisations throughout Queensland.

Our latest campaign, launched at IAS 2023 in Brisbane, is about changing the conversation about HIV and ending HIV related stigma. We'd love you to explore the campaign here and learn more about HIV and how you can help end HIV stigma.

Queensland Positive People acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the many lands and waters upon which we work and live, paying particular respect to the Turrbal and Jagera peoples of Meanjin upon which our Manilla and Ann Street offices are based. We recognise that this land is unceded and has always been under First Nations custodianship. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and to emerging community leaders. QPP also acknowledges the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people hold in the communities we work alongside, and also acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who access our service.
