Council of Single Mothers and their Children

Provide a safety net for single mother families

'I work, scrimp and save, but one big bill can cripple me and suddenly, I have to choose between electricity or food for the family.'

At Council of Single Mothers and their Children, we support families who have escaped family violence, women who are caring for children with a disability, women who have a disability themselves, grandmothers caring for grandchildren, and women who are juggling work, study and family on their own.

These single mothers are doing their best for their children, but sometimes there simply isn't enough money to go around.

Juggling work and family, paying for living costs, school and other expenses, all it can take is the car to break down, a medical emergency, a big bill for school expenses or the end of a rental agreement and the choice comes down to feeding the family or paying the bills.

Council of Single Mothers and their Children Vic has emergency relief that we distribute each year to struggling single mother families. As the financial year ends, due to overwhelming demand we are turning away families who need help with basic costs like groceries. As soon as you donate it, we will distribute it!

How does your donation help?

  • $20 contributes toward a food voucher for a mother with two children to feed

  • $50 enables a single mother if pay off an unexpected bill and stay afloat.

  • $300 supports a family with costs related to moving to a new permanent home.

33% of single parent families in Australia are living in poverty, compared to 10% of couple families (ACOSS Poverty in Australia report 2016). Timely help for a family in their hour of need can prevent long-term crisis for these families, such as homelessness, that are much harder, and more costly, to get out of.

Your gift will help single mother families stay afloat at their time of most acute need.

Make your donation really count this financial year! Every donation will make a difference.

Your donation, no matter how small, can make a difference and support hard working women to best provide for their children. Please donate today.

P.S. CSMC assists single mother families all year round to secure housing, put food on the table, cover back to school costs and escape family violence. You can help us make a real difference.
