Save our Jelly Bean Program ODYS

Open Doors Youth Service Inc Other Causes...

Jelly Beans started in 2013 out of the need to support young people who were Gender diverse and accessing Open Doors Youth Service Reconnect Program. We found that this cohort needs varied and was complex in nature. Transgender young people have the highest rate of suicide and have many complex mental ill health challenges.  Gender diverse young people also experience a high rate of homeless due to lack of family acceptance, bullying, violence, mental ill health, and discrimination.
The Jelly Beans program at Open Doors started with four youth and now accommodates anywhere up to 40 young people every second Saturday.
The group has been funded by community donations and has been limited to what support we can provide with this minimal funding. Open Doors has come to a point where we need to  raise funds to support this program and have dedicated staff to provide mental and medical support to this cohort. This is why we are launching save our Jelly beans campaign.
The Jelly Beans program is unique to Brisbane and provides vital support and crisis assistance to young people who are gender diverse between the ages of 12-24 year of age.
The program provides, counseling, facilitated training of life skills and gives the young people a safe place to talk about their experiences with like-minded humans.
We ask you to donate today to help support Brisbane's young people in accessing support, food, counseling and a safe space to be who they are without prejudice.
