DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE LIVES OF YOUNG CARERS?
Social INTERIORS is here to help
There are 2 to 3 young carers in every classroom & 150,000 young carers in Australia under the age of 18.
Young carers take on caring responsibilities such as cooking, cleaning, lifting, personal care, shopping, paying bills and coordinating medical appointments for parent or siblings who live with a disability or chronic illness.
They can spend many hours caring per week caring with little or no support. School attendance and achievement as well as future employment opportunities can be affected. Limited finances and lack of spare time can also leave fewer opportunities for young carers to take part in sport, recreation and social activities. This can impact upon a young carer's social development and emotional well-being.
Young carers tell us that caring for their family member can be very challenging, however it can also be a very rewarding experience. They can develop a sense of compassion and maturity that is beyond their years, and can feel a sense of pride and satisfaction about their caring role. There are no other in-home practical support services for young carers, and we want to fill this support gap with a practical and reputable service.
We want to ease the caring load for young carers and support them to reach their full potential.
