The Stillbirth Foundation Australia works to reduce the incidence of stillbirth in Australia by:
* Funding and encouraging research into stillbirth; and
* Increasing public awareness about stillbirth.
Stillbirth is when a baby dies whilst inside its mother and can occur at anytime from 20 weeks until immediately before birth.
Six babies are delivered stillborn every day in Australia, and for every baby that dies of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), 30 are stillborn.
Despite medical and scientific advances, the rate of stillborn babies is not declining nor well understood - a situation that urgently needs to be adressed.
Since our foundation in 2005, the Stillbirth Foundation has allocated over $1million to funding the most rigorously designed studies aimed at finding a means of preventing stillbirth and supporting the families of stillborn babies.
Our mission is to significantly reduce the incidence of stillbirth through research, education and advocacy.
