Support After Suicide

Following a suicide, some people feel well supported by family and friends while others feel isolated and misunderstood. In these circumstances it may assist to receive some additional information and support.

Support After Suicide provides direct support to individuals, families and children who are bereaved by suicide and has developed a range of resources to assist those who are bereaved.

Why are we seeking your support?

  • Grief in response to suicide can be particularly intense and complicated
  • Feelings of guilt, shame and blame are very common
  • In a family, the pain and hurt can make it difficult to communicate with one another. Conflicts can arise. It's important to communicate while at the same time having respect for the differing ways of handling things
  • Some people find it difficult to be open about the cause of death but being open and honest as much as possible may help you feel less isolated.

You can help us provide the necessary professional and timely support for people suffering the intense and difficult grief following the suicide of a loved one.

How will the funds be used?

  • To assist us to provide quality programs and experienced counsellors.
  • To develop and print a booklet to advise and guide parents and caregivers when they speak to children and young people about the suicide of someone close to them.
