That's The Thing About Fishing (TTTAF)

That’s The Thing About Fishing (TTTAF) is a small not for profit organisation, now registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for profits Commission (ACNC), that supports the disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the community (principally Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula.

We support and assist those suffering from physical disability, mental health issues, family violence, and a troubled family history, amongst many other groups, by building programs, using fishing as a conduit that will encourage people of all ages to spend quality time outdoors.

We undertake fishing clinics, for target groups of all ages, that aim to

·         Encourage social interaction

·         Improve social development

·         Improve self confidence

·         (Re)gain social skills

·         Reduce loneliness and feelings of worthlessness

·         Allow families to participate in activities with groups of a similar make up and social standing

Consequent upon our activities within the community, we now

·         Participate in a local mental health action group that seeks to help the homeless and reduce homelessness in the community

·         Chair a mental health lobby group that seeks to identify mental health issues and find solutions

·         Act, in an unofficial capacity, in the bereavement counselling arena

·         Assist those who are contemplating self-harm and/or suicide

As we continue to grow, we are considering how we can expand our offerings to our clients.

As part of the program of works, we want to involve as many of our clients and disability groups as possible, introducing them to the art of boat repair and maintenance and general wood-working skills. A natural extension of this is to offer the troubled youth of our community the chance to learn a trade in the marine industry, be it in carpentry, marine engine repair and maintenance or marine electrical safety. This will allow us to continue one of our aims of greater integration of the disadvantaged in to the community, improving self-confidence and increasing social skills.

Your donation will help us to maintain our core activities and to establish premises and training programs for our new venture.
