West Welcome Wagon Winter Appeal

$

You can give the gift of a warm home this winter.
Donate today and your impact will be doubled^

Throughout our community asylum seekers and refugees are continuing to suffer from the isolating and financially constricting effects of COVID-19 as the pandemic continues in 2021.

In 2020, West Welcome Wagon experienced a 50% increase in support requests and we expect to receive even more this coming winter.

Your donations have allowed us to deliver over 4,500 food boxes to vulnerable families during lockdown, to provide heaters, rugs and blankets to help keep their homes warm, and bring joy to children through the giving of bicycles and toys.

If ever there was a time for our hearts to overflow with compassion, it’s now.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, every dollar raised between now and 31 August 2021 will be matched^. This means your heartfelt donation will have twice the impact in making sure some of our most vulnerable community members stay warm this winter.

From your heart, to their home.
It's what West Welcome Wagon is all about.

“I'm very lucky to have you people. This is what I have - words only. Thank you for making my home complete.” - Maria*, a WWW client

What do we do

West Welcome Wagon supports asylum seekers through the provision of good quality donations, food relief, educational supplies and community engagement.

Asylum seekers are people escaping persecution in their home countries. The majority of asylum seekers we assist are on bridging visas with limited work rights and very little income.

Thanks to your previous generosity, West Welcome Wagon has been able to support more than 1,500 asylum seeker and refugee households from over 30 countries.

However there are many more people in need and your generous donation will enable us to extend our support.

Maria’s Story

Maria* and Amir* arrived in Australia with a small suitcase of possessions and a big dream of creating a better life for their young family.

Finding a house and a job was incredibly difficult as one never comes easily without the other.

After several months the couple had managed to secure both, but then a month later the global pandemic hit and Amir had to part with their only source of income.

With no income, and what little furniture they could source in poor repair, Maria was referred to West Welcome Wagon, where she met Fiona, one of our volunteers.

Fiona worked closely with Maria to determine how West Welcome Wagon could help turn her accommodation into a warm and comfortable family home.

Imagine living in a cold, bare house in a new country, with no form of support. This was Maria and her family's reality until West Welcome Wagon were able to assist thanks to donations from generous supporters like you. Because of your past gifts, we were able to provide Maria and her family with good quality furniture, heating, food and bikes for her children to enjoy.

We still need your support to assist more families like Maria’s and make their homes complete.

Please donate now to double your impact and help keep homes warm this winter.

All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.

^ All donations will be matched to the value of $35,000
