Y-CARE (South East Queensland) Inc

Logan City Youth Services - Alternative Vocational Educatio

The Y-Care recognises that the most appropriate place for young people to learn is in school. Having said this, there are increasing numbers of young people who, because of environmental or other factors, do not 'fit' within the mainstream schooling system and either refuse to attend school or attend on an irregular basis.

Logan City Youth Services ("The Shed") is an alternative accredited education alternative that aims to support, encourage and train 'at risk' and Marginalised young people who are confronted daily with problems relating to homelessness, poverty, disability and distress.

With the assistance of volunteers from the local community, these young people will undertake various skill and confidence building activities that can assist them to gain sustainable employment, education and motivation to approach the rest of their lives.

Ultimately, the aim is to break the cycle of disadvantage by showing the young people that there are opportunities and experiences that differ from those that they are accustomed to in their existing life situations.

How will the funds be used?

All monies donated will be used solely for the benefit of the participants, with no money being used for administrative costs. Donations will be primarily used to purchase equipment and materials that the different volunteers will need to undertake ongoing activities with young people.
