Zonta Cares is dedicated to its mission of improving the treatment and care status of women in Sri Lanka by establishing a program where every woman going through breast cancer has access to a Breast Care Nurse similar to the McGrath Foundation in Australia.
The funds collected for the cause “Zonta Cares” will be utilised to cover costs of recognised Breast Care Nurse trainers travelling to Sri Lanka early 2019.
When in Sri Lanka, Breast Care Nurse trainers will assist with the education of nurses to have specialist training to provide support and care for all breast cancer patients. They will aim to establish early detection methods and eliminate the prejudice of breast cancer and encourage women to continue treatment post surgery.
In Australia the Breast Care Nurses help individuals and their families experiencing breast cancer. These nurses listen, guide and support people with breast cancer and their families every day through meaningful conversations, advice and quality care.
A breast cancer diagnosis changes your life, often in ways least expected. The impact can be felt right throughout your family and friends. Despite how much as you try, the diagnosis, the treatment and the disease can alter your life but with specifically trained nurses in Sri Lanka the outcome is likely to be more positive.
