Warrnambool and District Community Hospice

The Warrnambool and District Community Hospice (WDCH) is a community initiated, not-for-profit, volunteer organisation. Our mission is to provide people who are dying and their carers and families with the option of  in-home care through our Hospice in the Home program. At a difficult time, our volunteers visit the homes of people, who are dying, to provide compassionate support to them and their families. Our service, not only  offers people the opportunity to die at home, rather than in hospital, but helps prevent carer burnout. Our service relies on the generosity of the people and businesses from the Warrnambool community for its existence.

This Christmas we are hoping to raise $24000 for ongoing specialist education and support for our newest volunteer recruits, to meet the growing need for this service in the Warrnambool and South West Region. It costs between $600-$1200 a night for a hospital bed for a person who is dying. It costs us approximately $1500 a year to run one volunteer. In the last five years we have trained seventy-five volunteers for the 'Hospice in the Home' program. We are now training a new group of fourteen volunteers for both the 'Hospice in the Home' program and the Crystal Lee Foundation.

Any contribution you can make will be granting the wish of a person, who is dying, to have their end of life needs compassionately met, in the home. Here is an example of what your gift will achieve.

$100 will provide a Hospice volunteer and carer kit to aid a person who is dying, their carers and volunteers in the home. A Hospice volunteer and carer kit includes hygiene and first aid supplies, volunteer time records, emergency numbers, end of life care and carer support information.

$500 will provide five Hospice volunteer and carer kits to aid people who are dying, their carers and volunteers in the home.

$1000 will provide ten Hospice volunteer and carer kits to aid people who are dying, their carers and volunteers in the home.

$1500 will provide one volunteer with rostering, specialist training, counselling and operational support for a year, to service the South West.

$3000 will provide for a year two volunteers with rostering, specialist training, counselling and operational support for a year, to service the South West.

$4500 will provide three volunteers for a year with rostering, specialist training, counselling and operational support for a year, to service the South West.

$7 500 will provide four volunteers with rostering, specialist training, counselling and operational support for a year, to service the South West.
