Dr Alexandra Cameron MBE was Victoria’s first school music inspector, with responsibility for the total development of music education in secondary schools. In 1967, she established the Secondary Schools Concert Committee, now Melbourne Youth Orchestras (MYO), to provide ensemble music performance opportunities for school students. 

Now in its 50th year, MYO continues to bring Victoria’s young musicians together to hone their skills, learn from outstanding professionals, and be inspired to pursue their love of music. MYO provides students with the opportunity to form new friendships and maintain pathways to music for life.

MYO maintains Dr Cameron’s commitment to ensuring that no young learner should be excluded based on disadvantage. Therefore, your gift to the Alexandra Cameron Memorial Fund will directly support bursaries for young Victorian musicians who would otherwise be unable to take part.
