The Ali Island Project aims to raise funds to improve the standard of living for the locals of Ali Island, neighbouring islands and mainland communities of Sandaun Province, Papua New Guinea. 100% of funds raised go directly to programs improving local health and sanitation infrastructure, education, reliable food and safe drinking water.
Creating a self-sustaining community
As well as improving quality of life for the locals, the organisation is working to develop a sustainable structure for ecotourism in the Aitape region. Generation of tourism income for island and mainland communities will provide employment for many locals and assist in developing much needed funds for infrastructure, health facilities and educational programs.
The Ali Island Guest House
To assist with local tourism development, construction of the Ali Island Guest House and Conference Centre is currently underway. These facilities, once completed, will be staffed, owned and operated by the local community, providing much needed employment and income.
How you can help
The Project is largely in need of financial assistance. The project needs to raise somewhere in the vicinity of $120,000 in order to complete the building structures. More will allow for further development of facilities, establishment of local attractions and provide training in hospitality, book-keeping etc to the local islanders
Sponsor a child
With so many needy children on the Island, you can make a difference by choosing to sponsor a child to go to school. An AU$50 donation will provide an entire year's worth of school fees, as well as a gift pack of pencils, reader and stationery.
