About this cause

Ambulance Wish Western Australia's purpose is to provide meaningful and positive end-of-life experiences for terminally ill, immobile West Australians.  Ambulance Wish Western Australia’s mission is to give terminally ill patients the resources, specialist transport and medical care they need to fulfil their final wishes. Wishes can be simple; a last visit home or to a place of personal significance. It’s usually the little things that mean the most to a person nearing the end of their life, but these can seem impossible.

This service is offered to all wish recipients free of charge, regardless of age, race, religion or nationality, and with a warm and heartfelt embrace. Ambulance Wish Western Australia seeks to provide care, even after accepting that death is approaching, by fulfilling wishes to those receiving palliative care or with a terminal illness; celebrating their lives and passions by allowing them to visit a place of personal significance to enhance their quality of life.

Officially launched in October 2021 and fulfilling 11 beautiful wishes in its first year of operation, the Final Wish Programme has continued to grow. The programme entered its third year of operation with a growth of over 340 per cent, nominations for excellence in volunteer service at both state and national levels, and a volunteer base of over 90 individuals.

The objectives of the Ambulance Wish Final Wish Programme are to:
• Provide meaningful and positive end-of-life experiences for terminally ill West Australians;
• Improve the end-of-life experience for families (and significant others);
• Build a network of medically trained volunteers to assist in fulfilling the wishes of terminally ill West Australians; and
• Develop the qualities of compassion, empathy and kindness for health professionals.

Ambulance Wish Western Australia is a 100% volunteer-run charity, funded entirely by charitable donations and receiving no Government funding. It requires corporate partnerships, donations, philanthropists and community fundraising to ensure its outcomes are achieved. Every dollar goes to operating the Ambulance Wish Western Australia Final Wish Programme.
