The power of youth is the common wealth for the entire world. The faces of young people are the faces of our past, our present and our future...
- Kailash Satyarthi (Nobel Peace Prize winner)
Adolescence is a critical time in everyone’s life. It is when we develop a sense of belonging and identity.
Young people from refugee backgrounds face unique challenges that can impact their mental health, self-esteem, ability to form relationships and ability to learn. They can often be the only person in their family to speak English. Their education may have been disrupted at a crucial time in their life, with family not able to provide support with homework and assignments due to language and educational differences. They can become disconnected from their culture due to pressures of fitting into the Australian way of life. Transgenerational trauma can impact the way family members interact, and younger members of the family can assume responsibility for their whole family.
It is because of these unique challenges that we have developed specialised programs supporting over 3000 young people every year with 700 support sessions.
Our goal is to create safe spaces where young people can build skills and grow, opening the doorway to possibilities in the future through mentoring and tailored training. We offer new experiences and adventures to broaden the mind and deliver programs to help young people connect with their culture, helping to cultivate a sense of pride and belonging at this important time during life.
Help us support young people from refugee backgrounds, now, today and tomorrow.
