Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA actively raises awareness and provides information about the disease through:
Organising public seminars and conferences, self-management courses and a telephone advisory service.
We teach people about managing their arthritis through support groups and courses, and educate thousands more about the latest research and developments through our magazine Arthritis Today.
We provide free information booklets and more information through our website.
We provide hydrotherapy classes at our premises and are constantly organising new exercise classes and initiatives for those with arthritis, including Tai Chi and Nordic Pole Walking.
Each year at Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA, we run Camp Freedom, where children with Juvenile Arthritis can spend a week together enjoying the physical activities they may normally miss out on. With trained medical staff supervising, they enjoy rafting, rope climbing and a host of other sports. For once, these children get to participate in everything. For many of them, it might be their only chance all year to get together with other people their own age who wholeheartedly know what they're going through - without them having to explain anything.
Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA is dedicated to the support of new research into possible cures and better treatments for musculoskeletal diseases. We have been the major force behind efforts to establish a Chair of Musculoskeletal research at the University of Western Australia, now near completion. We are currently midway through a campaign that will provide a major portion of the funds to finance the position that we expect to be filled by July 2012.
