AusCongo Network Incorporated

AusCongo Network General Appeal

AusCongo Network Incorporated (ACN) is a grass-roots, not-for-profit organisation with recognised charity status within Queensland committed to reducing poverty in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and among Congolese people in Australia. We pursue this goal with the emphasis of reducing the cycle of dependency and poverty created by remittances. Our mission is to alleviate poverty among the Congolese people both locally and globally by providing opportunities to have their lives transformed through community development projects designed to build strong and sustainable communities.

The ACN Community and Business centre within Mbuji-Mayi acts as our centre of operation in the Congo. The communities located here and throughout the greater Kasai region currently experience the effects of the protracted war and conflict that has been considered the most neglected crisis in 2017 according to a survey of aid agencies. These effects have contributed to displaced peoples, malnutrition, poverty and a lack of access to education and opportunity pathways.

How will your donations be used?

ACN utilises community development frameworks which empower local people to understand their own personal strengths, what they can work with within their community and how to be responsible for the outcomes they create. Since we began in 2011, we have helped almost 1,500 people within the Mbuji-Mayi community in a highly practical way within our Community and Business centre that has led community members to start their own businesses, receive an education and build a better future for themselves and their families.

The centre has become a thriving hub for activities, where community members come together to take part in training workshops aimed to produce self sufficiency as well as to self-organise into industry groups working towards creating their own projects to reduce their poverty. These groups include agriculture, small business, youth, women’s empowerment, healthcare, transformers group (making products from other ingredients e.g. soap) and more.

We are reliant on donations to help us expand our operations within the Community and Business centre in Mbuji-Mayi so we can empower more people to become free from poverty. Despite the hardship faced by this community, we believe in their future and building a strong, stable and healthy community where every member thrives.
