Council of Single Mothers and their Children

Meeting the costs of education

Education is the pathway out of poverty and a foundation for the future of our children. All children should have the ability to fully participate in school life regardless of their parents’ financial situation, yet the rising cost of public school education has resulted in some children being singled out or excluded from opportunities to learn and grow.

The Council of Single Mothers and their Children Vic is committed to helping children of single mother families reach their full potential. We provide financial assistance to single mother families with children attending government and non-government secondary schools who are experiencing financial difficulties and are unable to meet the full cost of school.

Your donation will help a family purchase school books, school uniforms, personal devices, mathematical calculators, public transport tickets and other essential school items, attend school camps and pay for school fees.

Our back to school program also offers single mothers with primary and secondard school aged children a range of supports:

· Information, referral and telephone support on a range of issues relating to children’s access to education;

· Material aid through the provision of education packs donated by the Brotherhood of St Laurence;

· Information on other government and community resources available.

Families are able to apply for financial assistance from mid-December onwards until all funds are expended.
