In a statewide first, BCH launched a pilot project delivering a personalised dental service for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Going to the dentist can be challenging for many people, but for people with ASD it can be extremely difficult.
BCH developed the program in consultation with families and carers with lived experiences.
The personalised program begins with a phone call to assess the patients needs. Resources are then provided such as visual and social stories, aides and sensory equipment in advance of the appointment to allow patients to become familier with their upcoming dental care.
We are seeking financial contributions to allow us to continue this service and expand to support other disorders.
