Be Uplifted is a unique boutique breast cancer charity that seeks to improve the lives of women, men and their families experiencing difficulty or disadvantage as a consequence of breast cancer. We provide funds enabling them to access services, programs, pay bills, and receive goods or assistance to alleviate that difficulty or disadvantage.
Two friends - Barb Zimmerlie and Wendy Paterson - both suffered breast cancer together - for one the cancer required a lumpectomy for the other, a solo Mum a double mastectomy. Unable to work and facing financial costs well beyond her means prompted her friend to organise fundraisers to assist her meet these unexpected costs.
Both women survived their breast cancer fight, both felt they had been given a second chance at life; both wanted to apply their energies to assist other women and their families embarking on the same journey and so in 2009 they registered the charity "Be Uplifted Inc."
To ensure that Be Uplifted can assist many women, men and their families, a variety of projects are undertaken to ensure that we can provide the best support possible. We are blessed that Bunnings at Carseldine allow us to have BBQs, and we are also holding a BBQ at Coles at the Aspley Hypermarket every Saturday. We hold several functions during the year to raise much needed funds - this year we are having a Trivia Night, Warehouse Shopping Bus Trip, Cent Auction, Ball, Menopause the Musical. We have also been invited to the Orchid Society show at Mt Cootha in June and November. We also have a band of volunteers who make "fake boobs" to give to anyone who is in need also to our recipients. We also have volunteers who knit and sew for us making beautiful quilts that we use in raffles in numerous shopping centres and we also give them to recipients in the chemo wards of North West Private, Holy Spirit Private, Redcliffe Hospital and Caboolture Private Hospitals. At Christmas time we make up hampers to give to the Oncology Wards of these hospitals to make Christmas just a little less stressful for those on a journey. We have a dedicated team of volunteers who work untiringly for Be Uplifted Inc Breast Cancer Charity to raise the much needed funds to help our recipients.
